In Search of The Fair

Debbie, Fiskateer #2852 challenged us to create a scrapbook page which documents something nostalgic for you.

Yesterday, I decided to take her up on this challenge and knew exactly what I wanted to create a layout of.

A few years ago, I found an invitation to the Spring Millinery Opening to The Fair at a yard sale amongst a pile of paper goods that I bought. I was curious to find out more about this store "The Fair" that was part of my town's history in the early 1900's.

A trip to our local harbour museum was the first stop on my list. After speaking to the curator, I traded a copy of my invitation for a copy of a photo that he had of The Fair.

I was given a bunch of old newspapers from my town (most were in rough condition) and after sorting through them, I came across an advertisement for The Fair dated 1906. I was thrilled to add this advertisement to my file.

So far I haven't uncovered a lot of information on The Fair's history. I am trying to get in touch with our local newspaper editor to see if I can uncover some more of the history.

Surprising enough, this layout came together pretty quickly. I used copies of the original documents and scanned them, resized them and printed them off. I also added a pull out tab underneath my photo's where I've recorded the journaling and the history I've undercovered so far.

Creating vintage layouts is one of the things that I struggled with. Hopefully after this one I'll be inspired to create more as I have a stack of vintage family portraits that I want to scrap.
